Tourism Statistics, Quarter I: January-March, 2019
In the first quarter which is January, February and March months of 2019 tourism income increased by 4.6% and reached to $ 4 billion 629 million 679 thousand. While 80.3% of this income (excluding GSM roaming and marina service expenditures) was obtained from foreign visitors, 19.7% was obtained from citizens resident abroad.Visitors organise their travel individually or with package tour. While individual expenditures constituted $ 4 billion 86 million 903 thousand of the total tourism income, $ 542 million 776 thousand of tourism income was obtained by package tour expenditures.
Average expenditure of the visitors was $ 697 per capita
In this quarter while average expenditure of the foreigners was $ 678 per capita, average expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident abroad was $ 765 per capita.
Number of departing visitors increased by 8.5%
In this quarter number of departing visitors increased by 8.5% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 6 million 644 thousand 391 persons. While 82.2% of visitors was foreign with 5 million 460 thousand 380 persons, 17.8% of them was Turkish citizens resident abroad with 1 million 184 thousand 11 persons.
Tourism expenditure decreased by 1.1%
Tourism expenditure which is the expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident in Turkey and visited abroad, decreased by 1.1% compared to same quarter of previous year and declined to $ 1 billion 66 million 706 thousand. While $ 899 million 807 thousand of total expenditures was individual expenditures, $ 166 million 899 thousand of tourism expenditures was package tour expenditures.
Number of Turkish citizens visited abroad decreased by 2.5%
In this quarter number of Turkish citizens visited abroad decreased by 2.5% compared to same quarter of previous year and declined to 2 million 17 thousand 916 persons. Average expenditure was $ 529 per capita.
